2019 Monteleone Etna Bianco

The Monteleone family is headed by Giulia, who runs the estate with the help of her father, Enrico, and husband and winemaker Benedetto Alessandro. The winery was founded only in 2017, when they bought a small vineyard on the north side of Etna.

The grapes for the Etna Bianco, which is 100% carricante, come from two small vineyards near the towns of Sant'Alfio and Milo, on the eastern flank of the volcano, where most Etna Bianco is grown (most of the Etna Rosso is grown on the northern flank).

The 2019 is aggressively citrusy, with bright lemon juice on the palate, alongside guava notes, a stoney minerality, and high acidity on the finish. Definitely a food wine, perfect with fried calamari, baked white fish in butter sauce, pasta alle vongole, or creamy tarragon chicken.
